Bus schedules will be listed and posted at each individual school the last week of August and on the school district website (select the individual school to see the bus route(s) that service that school). If you have any questions, comments or concerns regarding school busing in this district, please direct them to the Office of the Director of Operations at 250-334-5500.

Student Bus Transportation

Subject to available seating space, school bus transportation may be provided for:

All distances will be gauged by the nearest passable road, and where the Board considers it uneconomical to provide bus transportation as stipulated above, the Board may consider payment of transportation assistance to parents upon application through the school.

Bus Loading and Unloading

This district uses the Baltimore System for loading and unloading school buses. This system is judged to provide the highest guarantee of safety for students while at their bus stops and while boarding or leaving their buses. This system works as follows:

  1. Wherever possible, bus stops are located in areas where the school bus can pull completely off the road onto the shoulder to pick up or discharge students. In this case, red flashing lights are not used.
  2. Where it is not possible for the procedure in (1) above to be followed, the bus will stop on the roadway, using red flashing lights to stop all traffic.
  3. In both of the above cases, students are required to proceed as follows:
    • For pick-up: Be at the bus stop five minutes prior to arrival of the bus. If crossing a highway is required and the bus has already arrived at the stop, students are not to cross the highway; they are to return home.
    • For discharge: Students are to discharge from the bus and wait for the bus to leave the stop. If the students are required to cross the roadway, they must wait for all traffic to be cleared before doing so.

Please note that when flashing lights are used, their purpose is to stop traffic—not to assist children in crossing the road. It is the view of the Board of Education and the local RCMP that if children are taught to cross roadways safely to and from bus stops, they will be better able to do so safely at all times.

Traffic safety and busing procedures are taught in district elementary schools and the subject is reviewed each September in all schools.

Transportation Assistance

Applications for transportation assistance are available at your school and must be returned to the school by September 30th to be considered for payment in this school year.

School Bus Transportation for Courtesy Riders

Students who are not eligible for regular school bus transportation because they live within the prescribed walk limits of their school: Primary: 3.2 kms; Grades 4—6: 4 kms; Grades 7—12: 4.8 kms; or who attend a school other than their neighbourhood school are permitted to ride school buses on existing routes as courtesy riders provided there are seats available. The availability of this service may be limited as bus and route efficiencies are undertaken.
