ALBERTA

Alberta lies between British Columbia and Saskatchewan. To the North (above it) are the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. To the South (underneath) is Montana.

The population of Alberta in 2008 was
3 585 100.

The capital city of Alberta is Edmonton

Alberta's flag has the sheild from their coat of arms with a blue background.

At the top of the flag is the St. George's Cross which was one of the first flags to fly over Canada. In the middle are the snow capped Rocky Mountains with the green hills, prairies and wheatfields all part of Alberta's scenery.

 

Alberta's flower is the Wild Rose. It is a flower that is able to grow on mountains and in meadows and the bush produces berries called rose hips. Rose hips can be picked in the late summer and are an excellent source of vitamin C.

The Provincial bird is the Great Horned Owl chosen for its strength and ability to live in different environments. The Great Horned Owl is found throughout Alberta in the forests and in the grasslands.

The Provincial Tree is the Lodgepole pine. This tree grows throughout Alberta on the mountains and on the plains. It plays a major role in the logging industry and has been used by Plains First Nations People in the past.

The Coat of Arms of Alberta has the same shield that is on the flag in the middle and it is held up by pronhorn and a lion.

At the bottom is the motto: Fortis Et Liber which means-Strong and Free.

Alberta's tartan consists of:

-Green which stands for the forests
-Gold stands for the fields of wheat
-Blue is for the clear blue skies and the lakes
-black stands for the coal and oil found there
-Pink is for the symbol of the wild rose
